This is an estimate based on the published salaried slab rates for the tax year selected. It is not tax advice. Your actual liability depends on allowances, tax credits, other sources of income and tax already withheld from you.

Worth knowing

  • Regulatory duty, anti-dumping duty and excise apply to some headings and are not included here. Check your PCT code.
  • Sales tax paid at import is input tax for a registered importer and comes back against output tax. For an unregistered importer it is simply a cost.
  • Advance income tax under section 148 is adjustable for a commercial importer and is often the largest single recoverable amount in the consignment.

Want the real number, not an estimate?

A calculator works from the figures you give it. Your actual position accounts for allowances, credits, other income and every rupee already withheld from you — which is frequently more than the tax you owe.

Frequently asked questions

Are the calculator results accurate?

The calculator applies the published salaried slab rates for the tax year you select, and the slab table is shown alongside the result so you can check it. It is an estimate on the figure you enter, your actual liability depends on allowances, credits, other income and tax already withheld from you.

Is this tax advice?

No. It is an estimating tool. For a figure you can rely on, send us your salary certificate and we will compute your actual position.

Which income should I enter?

Your taxable salary, gross salary as it appears on your salary certificate. Do not deduct the tax already withheld; the calculator works out the tax on the gross figure.

Why does the tax differ so much between tax years?

Because the slab rates change with each Finance Act, sometimes substantially in the middle bands. Switch the year in the calculator to compare the same salary under both.
