How it works
-
1
Data collected early in the month
We ask for the previous month's invoices in the first week, not on the eighteenth. The annexure deadline sits well before the return deadline.
-
2
Annexure C uploaded
Sales data goes up within its own window so your buyers can claim their input in time.
-
3
Input reconciled and return prepared
We match your purchase claims against what suppliers declared and flag anything that will be disallowed before it is claimed.
-
4
Payment and filing
Challan to you if tax is payable, then the return is filed and the acknowledgement sent.

The monthly cycle has more than one deadline
Most people know the sales tax return has a monthly due date. Fewer realise the cycle has staged deadlines within it: the sales annexure has to be uploaded before the return itself, the payment has its own point in the month, and the return is filed after both. Treating the whole thing as a single date at the end of the month is how businesses end up filing late every single month without quite understanding why.
The annexure timing matters commercially, not just legally. Your buyers can only claim input tax on your invoices once you have declared them. File late and you have quietly created a problem for every registered customer you have, and they will notice.
Input tax is where the money is, and where the risk is
The whole architecture of sales tax is output tax on your sales less input tax on your purchases. Input adjustment is therefore not an administrative detail; it is the difference between a manageable liability and a painful one. It is also the area FBR scrutinises hardest.
Input can be disallowed for several reasons that surprise businesses: the supplier did not declare the corresponding sale, the supplier is suspended or blacklisted, the invoice is not a compliant tax invoice, the purchase is on the list of goods on which input is not allowed, or the claim exceeds the permitted proportion of output tax for the period. Each of these turns a claimed credit into a demand plus penalty later.
We reconcile your purchase claims against what suppliers have actually declared before filing, rather than claiming everything and dealing with the fallout at audit. If a supplier has not declared, you find out this month, while you still have commercial leverage with them.
Nil returns still have to be filed
A month with no sales is still a month with a return. Businesses that go quiet for a season, and plenty in Lahore do, assume there is nothing to file and accumulate a string of non-filed months. That leads to penalties and, more damaging, to suspension of the registration. A suspended supplier is a supplier whose invoices are worthless to registered buyers.
Carry-forward
Where your input exceeds your output for a period, the excess is generally carried forward to the next period rather than refunded, except in specific cases such as exports and zero-rated supplies. Carrying it forward correctly month after month matters: we have taken over registrations where a substantial accumulated credit had simply been dropped from the return at some point and never recovered.
Taking over from another consultant
Common, and straightforward. We need the last few filed returns, the current carry-forward position, and your IRIS access. What we always check first is whether the previous filings actually reconcile, a clean handover is worth much more than a fast one.
The annexures, in plain language
The monthly return is really a bundle of schedules. Annexure C is your sales, every tax invoice issued in the month, uploaded buyer by buyer, and it is what your customers' input claims are matched against. The purchase annexure is its mirror: your input claims, matched against what suppliers declared on their own Annexure C. Debit and credit notes adjust both sides where goods were returned or invoices corrected, and imports enter with the goods declaration and the tax paid at customs. FBR's system cross-matches the whole chain electronically, which is why "just put it in the return" stopped being possible years ago, a claim with no counterpart declaration on the other side surfaces as a discrepancy automatically. Our monthly job is to make your side of every match clean before it is filed.
Payment: PSID, CPR and the order of operations
Where the month ends with tax payable, the amount is deposited before the return is submitted, a PSID is generated for the liability, paid at the bank or through mobile banking, and the resulting CPR attaches to the return as proof. Filing a return that declares a liability without the deposit behind it does not settle anything; it creates an admitted, recoverable arrear, which is the worst kind. We sequence each month so the challan reaches you with enough margin to pay calmly, and the return goes in with its CPR the same day.
